AZ HB2094

Establishes a private prison study committee consisting of 25 members including legislators, law enforcement, judges, criminal defense attorneys, university faculty, and state corrections directors.

Committee shall research and report on private prison impacts including public safety, prisoner and staff safety, economic efficiency, provision of constitutional services and healthcare, and staff training requirements.

Committee may request information and data from state agencies, political subdivisions, and private prison facilities, and may hold hearings and conduct fact-finding tours.

Committee must submit findings and recommendations to the governor, legislature, and secretary of state by December 31, 2018, including recommendations on continued use of private prisons in Arizona.

The committee and this authorization are repealed September 30, 2019.
