HB 2161 Summary

• Allows persons convicted of reckless driving (§28-693) to apply for a special ignition interlock restricted driver license after completing 45 consecutive days of license revocation.

• Allows persons convicted of aggressive driving (§28-695) to apply for a special ignition interlock restricted driver license after completing 45 consecutive days of license revocation.

• Allows persons convicted of racing on highways (§28-708) to apply for a special ignition interlock restricted driver license after completing 45 consecutive days of license revocation.

• Expands eligibility for special ignition interlock restricted driver licenses to include reckless driving, aggressive driving, and racing offenses in addition to existing alcohol-related offenses.

• Requires persons issued these restricted licenses to maintain a functioning certified ignition interlock device during the remaining period of revocation, unless the interlock period is extended by the department.
