HB 2537 Summary

• Amends license plate replacement fee structure to remain at five dollars for lost, destroyed, or mutilated plates, pairs of plates, or year validating tabs.

• Requires the Department of Motor Vehicles to deposit excess revenue from new or replaced standard license plates (amounts exceeding fiscal year 2018-2019 collections) into the Arizona Highway Patrol Fund beginning in fiscal year 2019-2020.

• Clarifies that vehicle owners can only retain license plates when transferring a vehicle if the vehicle is subject to commercial registration, has a special plate, honored military plate, or historic value plate.

• Permits owners to surrender license plates or submit affidavits of destruction, and receive credits or refunds for unexpired registration fees and taxes minus a twelve dollar processing fee.

• Becomes effective June 30, 2019.
