Prohibits municipalities and counties from requiring fire sprinklers in single-family detached residences and residential buildings with no more than two dwelling units, and prohibits fines or penalties for choosing not to install them.

Grandfathers in municipalities and counties that required fire sprinklers for all single-family residences before November 15, 2017, allowing those requirements to remain in effect.

Permits fire sprinkler requirements for residences that are 5,000 livable square feet or more and for structured sober living homes as defined in statute.

Requires fire sprinkler permit applications to include provisions explaining that property owners cannot be mandated to install fire sprinklers in single-family or duplex residences.

Allows fire sprinkler permit applications to be submitted in either print or electronic format.
