Consumer reporting agencies may not charge fees for placing, removing, or temporarily lifting security freezes on consumer credit reports.

Agencies must place security freezes within 10 business days of written request and remove or temporarily lift them within 3 business days by mail or 15 minutes through electronic contact methods.

Security freezes for protected persons (minors under 16, incapacitated individuals, or those with guardians) are prohibited from charging fees if the protected person is under 16 or if identity theft is reported with a valid police report.

Agencies must send written confirmation of freeze placement and provide consumers with a unique personal identification number or password to manage freeze removal or temporary lifts.

Violations of the security freeze requirements are classified as unlawful practices enforceable through private action and by the Arizona Attorney General, with injunctive relief available.
