SB 1391 Summary

• Beginning in the 2019-2020 school year, school districts and charter schools must provide suicide prevention training to school guidance counselors, teachers, principals, and other personnel working with grades 6-12 students.

• Training must include identification of warning signs of suicidal behavior in adolescents and teens, and appropriate intervention and referral techniques, totaling at least 2 hours annually.

• Training must be provided in person using evidence-based materials and may be integrated into existing in-service or professional development programs.

• The Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System Administration must identify or develop and post a list of approved training materials on its website by July 1, 2019, with annual updates.

• The act is titled the "Mitch Warnock Act."
