• Adds "mentor" to the definition of barber-related terms, defining a mentor as a barber approved by the board to train apprentices in department of economic security-approved apprenticeship programs in licensed establishments.

• Authorizes the board of barbers to approve barbers as mentors based on their compliance record without conditioning approval on additional fees or requirements.

• Establishes an alternative pathway to barber licensure through completion of a department of economic security-approved apprenticeship program with at least 250 hours of instruction, in addition to the existing school graduation requirement.

• Exempts persons participating in a department of economic security-approved apprenticeship program from barbering licensing requirements while working with a mentor in a licensed establishment.

• Provides that cosmetologist and hairstylist license holders must complete a 750-hour barbering course in a licensed barber school to qualify for a barber license.
