SB 1411 Summary

• Creates an annual educational dashboard (achievement profile) developed by the Department of Education and recommended to the State Board of Education that reflects academic and educational performance indicators for each public school and local education agency.

• Expands performance indicators to include multiple measures of academic achievement, assessments in English language arts and mathematics, English language learner assessments, college and career readiness progress, science assessments, and educational measures such as graduation and attendance rates.

• Establishes that if neither a school nor school district meets the minimum student count for any performance indicator, that indicator shall not be factored into the letter grade assigned to the school.

• Requires the Department of Education to develop the classification methodology in collaboration with qualified technical and policy stakeholders appointed by the State Board, with letter grades applied to each performance indicator and an overall letter grade assigned to each public school or local education agency.

• Provides for annual processing of student data correction requests by the Department and allows schools to appeal final letter grades or performance indicator grades based on mitigating factors, including designations based on incorrect data.
