SB 1429 Summary

• Amends Arizona Revised Statutes Section 31-228 regarding discharge procedures for prisoners released on parole, community supervision, probation, or discharge from the Department of Corrections.

• Requires the Department of Corrections to furnish all accumulated monies in a prisoner's dedicated discharge account in United States currency rather than on prepaid cards, stored value cards, smart cards, or other value-storing devices.

• Maintains requirement that if a prisoner has accumulated less than $50 in their discharge account, the department shall furnish the difference up to $50, except for certain categories of prisoners.

• Allows prisoners to be furnished non-transferable transportation tickets on railroads or buses to locations beyond Arizona state limits, with the ticket voiding if unused within three days of discharge.

• Requires the department to provide clothing not exceeding $35 in cost to each released prisoner.
