• Amends section 8-830 to require residential drug treatment service providers to initiate family assessments and necessary services within thirty days of receiving a referral from the department.

• Amends section 8-841 to require the department to file a dependency petition if a health professional determines that a child under six months of age has been prenatally or postnatally exposed to controlled substances listed in section 13-3401, unless the exposure resulted from medical treatment.

• Maintains existing requirements for dependency petitions to include child information, parent/guardian names and addresses, factual basis for dependency claim, and notice procedures.
