HB 2453 Summary

• Requires municipalities and counties to include information on how to locate existing mines from the Arizona Geological Survey in land use planning elements, alongside consideration of existing mining operations and suitable geologic resources.

• Updates references to aggregate sources in general plans from "currently identified" aggregates to include maps available from state agencies and information on locating existing mines.

• Directs the Arizona Geological Survey to maintain an annually updated database of existing mines in Arizona to help municipalities and counties identify areas with mineral and aggregate mines for planning purposes under sections 9-461.05 and 11-804.

• Applies updated aggregate and mining consideration requirements to both municipal general plans and county comprehensive plans.
