HB 2523 - Youth Employment Summary

• Adds definition of "on a casual basis" to mean employment not exceeding 20 hours per week or employment exceeding 20 hours if without regularity or intermittent.

• Creates exemption in Section 23-233 from hazardous occupations restrictions for persons under 22 years old who are employed on a casual basis and enrolled full-time as students.

• Allows employers to pay federal minimum wage (rather than state minimum wage) to employees under 22 years old who are employed casually and enrolled full-time as students.

• Permits employers to negotiate other terms and conditions of employment with the same class of employees (under 22, casual employment, full-time students) consistent with state and federal law.
