AZ HCM2003

Urges the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to implement remediation and cleanup of uranium and related air and water pollution from improperly reclaimed and abandoned uranium mines within Arizona.

Requests the Arizona Attorney General review and pursue appropriate legal actions to compel the EPA to take additional remediation actions.

Directs the Arizona Secretary of State to transmit copies of the memorial to the EPA Administrator, Arizona Attorney General, and all members of Congress from Arizona.

Addresses pollution resulting from uranium mines, many stemming from Federal contracts during the mid-20th century, particularly affecting American Indian lands.

Notes that current modern uranium mining practices do not typically cause these types of pollution or result in long-term stored tailings.
