SB 1056 Summary

• Repeals Title 11, Chapter 7, Article 8 (gang and immigration intelligence team enforcement mission) and sections establishing the border security and law enforcement subaccount (41-1724) and related immigration enforcement statutes (13-1509, 13-2928, 13-2929).

• Removes peace officer authority to arrest persons based solely on committing offenses that make them removable from the United States (section 13-3883).

• Eliminates the provision allowing peace officers to stop vehicles based on reasonable suspicion of civil traffic violations in smuggling investigations (section 13-2319).

• Removes entrapment defense provisions from employment of unauthorized aliens statutes (sections 23-212 and 23-212.01).

• Removes the three-year record retention requirement for e-verify employment eligibility verification (section 23-214) and eliminates vehicle impoundment authority for transporting or harboring aliens in violation of law (section 28-3511).
