SB1089 Summary

• Expands the definition of telemedicine to include asynchronous store-and-forward technologies and remote patient monitoring technologies, in addition to interactive audio and video.

• Prohibits health insurance corporations, health care services organizations, and disability insurers from limiting or denying telemedicine coverage or applying different cost-sharing requirements than in-person consultations for the same service.

• Requires telemedicine services to comply with all Arizona laws and rules governing prescription pharmaceuticals and devices, as well as Arizona licensure requirements and practice guidelines.

• Applies to all insurance contracts issued, delivered, or renewed on or after January 1, 2018, excluding limited benefit coverage.

• Effective December 31, 2020.
