SB1346 Summary

• Amends instruction requirements on acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in kindergarten through grade 12, removing restrictions on content related to sexual orientation and lifestyle portrayal.

• Expands the menu of achievement assessments allowing local education agencies in grades 3-8 to select alternative assessments no later than the 2023-2024 school year instead of the statewide assessment.

• Clarifies dual enrollment provisions allowing homeschooled students to fully participate in college courses offered during the high school day for dual high school and college credit.

• Requires the state board of education to adopt a plan by July 1, 2019 for developing and implementing a new statewide assessment and menu of assessments in grades 3-8 and 9-12, with possible implementation in the 2021-2022 school year.

• Directs the Arizona Department of Education to collaborate with educators and school administrators to revise and replace test items for the statewide assessment.
