Charter school governing bodies must provide written notice at least 15 days before closing to parents/guardians, employees, and the state board for charter schools, and must post public notice on the school's website and door.

The state board for charter schools may impose civil penalties of up to $1,200 per enrolled pupil against entities that violate the notice requirements.

A displaced pupils payment fund is established to receive penalty collections, administered by the state board for charter schools and exempt from appropriation lapsing rules.

Parents or guardians of pupils affected by charter school closures that failed to provide required notice may apply for $1,200 payments from the fund, with prorated distributions if insufficient funds exist.
