Employers must grant eligible employees up to two work weeks of unpaid bereavement leave per 12-month period following the death of a child, for attending funerals, making arrangements, or grieving.

If more than one child dies within a 12-month period, eligible employees may take up to six work weeks of unpaid bereavement leave during that period.

Employees must use bereavement leave within 60 days of receiving notice of death and must provide employers at least 48 hours' notice unless impracticable; employers may require reasonable documentation such as death certificates or obituaries.

Employers cannot take adverse employment action against employees who use bereavement leave, and employees may use other paid leave concurrently with bereavement leave.

The Industrial Commission of Arizona may impose civil penalties of up to $500 for first violations and up to $1,000 for subsequent violations against employers who knowingly violate the requirement.
