HB 2285 Summary

• Amends Arizona Revised Statutes sections 28-729 and 28-903 regarding motorcycle operation on laned streets.

• Allows two-wheeled motorcycles to overtake and pass stopped vehicles in the same lane and operate between traffic lanes under specific conditions: streets with at least two adjacent traffic lanes, speed limits not exceeding 45 mph, motorcycle traveling at 15 mph or less, and only if safe.

• Prohibits motorcycles from overtaking moving vehicles in the same lane or operating between traffic lanes except under the conditions specified above and for peace officers performing official duties.

• Maintains requirement that all motor vehicles respect motorcycles' full use of a lane and prohibits driving to deprive motorcycles of lane use.

• Effective December 31, 2020.
