• Requires K-3 teachers in every school to receive dyslexia training complying with section 15-219 by July 1, 2022 (extended from 2021).

• Establishes a dyslexia specialist position within the Department of Education to provide support and resources to school districts and charter schools for assisting students with dyslexia.

• Requires the Department of Education to develop a dyslexia screening plan by July 1, 2021 (extended from 2020) ensuring all kindergarten and first-grade students are screened for dyslexia indicators within 45 calendar days of the school year or enrollment.

• Dyslexia screening must assess phonological and phonemic awareness, rapid naming skills, sound-letter correspondence, nonsense word fluency, and sound symbol recognition.

• The K-3 reading program established by this legislation terminates on July 1, 2022 pursuant to the automatic expiration statute.
