HB 2474 Summary

• Adds definition of "median" to Arizona Revised Statutes § 28-101 as any area in the middle of a street designed to provide a barrier between traffic directions, including raised concrete or grass barriers.

• Creates new § 28-798 prohibiting pedestrians from being on medians less than 30 feet wide for any purpose other than crossing a street.

• Provides exceptions to the median restriction for law enforcement, fire department personnel, authorized construction or maintenance workers with proper warning signs, and persons responding to emergencies.

• Establishes violation of the median restriction as a class 3 misdemeanor offense.

• Amends § 28-646 regarding pedestrian control signals by adding requirement that pedestrians not loiter or unduly delay crossing roadways after traffic has stopped to allow passage.
