HB 2675 Summary

• Allows water right holders to file a water conservation plan notice with the director to temporarily reduce water use without risk of losing their water rights through abandonment or forfeiture.

• Water conservation plan notices must include descriptions of water rights, conservation measures, place and purpose of use, and statement that the plan is voluntary and temporary (up to 10 years).

• Person may not accrue long-term storage credits for water conserved under a water conservation plan notice.

• Water conserved pursuant to a filed conservation plan notice is added as sufficient cause for nonuse in abandonment and forfeiture proceedings under existing water law.

• Clarifies that conservation activities contribute to practical and economical management of surface water in Arizona's watersheds and applies prospectively only.
