HB2842 Summary

• Requires the Department of Transportation to reissue license plates within three years after the warranty on the plate's reflective material expires, for plates issued on or after January 1, 2022.

• Exempts license plates for vehicles registered under articles 6, 7, or 8 of the vehicle code and plates issued under article 14 from the three-year reissuance requirement.

• Directs the Director of the Department of Transportation, in consultation with the Director of Public Safety, to develop reflectivity standards using the most current technology available while maintaining a competitive bid process.

• Maintains existing requirements that license plates display vehicle and owner numbers, the state name, and be readable from 100 feet during daylight.
