HCR 2006 Summary

• Recognizes the Assyrian Genocide of 1915 as genocide and a crime against humanity, during which the Ottoman Empire murdered more than 300,000 Assyrians between 1914 and 1923.

• Honors the memory of hundreds of thousands of Assyrians killed during the genocide through systematic mass executions, death marches, torture, starvation, rape, and enslavement.

• Proclaims August 7, 2020 as Assyrian Remembrance Day in Arizona to commemorate the victims and acknowledge the resilience of the Assyrian people.

• Notes that more than 600,000 Assyrians live in the United States with tens of thousands in Arizona, and recognizes Arizona as a global leader in human rights advocacy.
