HCR 2017 Summary

• Repeals Article XIX of the Arizona Constitution relating to the office of mine inspector as amended by Propositions 101 and 107 (November 3, 1992).

• Establishes a new Article XIX of the Arizona Constitution authorizing the Governor to appoint a State Mine Inspector with the advice and consent of the Senate, serving at the Governor's pleasure.

• Directs the Legislature to enact laws prescribing the qualifications and duties of the State Mine Inspector.

• Requires the Legislature to enact laws regulating mining operations and equipment to ensure the health and safety of mine workers.

• Submits the proposed constitutional amendment to voters at the next general election per Article XXI of the Arizona Constitution.
