SB 1027 Summary

• Designates performing or supervising pelvic examinations on anesthetized or unconscious patients without informed consent as unprofessional conduct for physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.

• Permits pelvic examinations without prior informed consent only when: (1) the examination is within the scope of a surgical procedure or diagnostic examination for which consent was already obtained, (2) medically necessary for diagnostic purposes on unconscious patients, or (3) a forensic medical examination requested by law enforcement for criminal evidence.

• Applies to physicians licensed under Arizona chapters 13 or 17, nurse practitioners licensed under chapter 15, and physician assistants licensed under chapter 25.
