SB1127 Summary

• Adds "dry needling" to the definition of athletic training services that athletic trainers may perform under physician direction, defined as using thin filiform needles to treat neuromusculoskeletal conditions and pain.

• Establishes dry needling as grounds for disciplinary action if athletic trainers fail to meet professional standards of care and training/education qualifications set by the board.

• Requires the board of athletic training to adopt rules by December 31, 2020 establishing professional standards of care and education qualifications for athletic trainers performing dry needling.

• Exempts the board from standard rulemaking requirements under Arizona Revised Statutes title 41, chapter 6 through December 31, 2020 to expedite adoption of dry needling rules.
