SB 1418 Summary

• Amends Arizona Revised Statutes sections 11-906, 11-909, and 41-835.02 to make technical and grammatical updates to library governance provisions.

• Repeals sections 41-3020.04, 41-3020.05, and 41-3020.08 and adds new sections 41-3028.04, 41-3028.05, and 41-3028.08 establishing sunset dates of July 1, 2028 for the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records; the State Board on Geographic and Historic Names; and the Board of Library Examiners.

• Modifies the Board of Library Examiners membership to add a position-at-large appointed by the director and changes county librarian appointment terms from one-year to three-year terms.

• Changes the State Board on Geographic and Historic Names to add a third public member appointed by the governor and designates the Arizona State Library representative as a nonvoting advisory member.

• Includes purpose statements citing Arizona Revised Statutes section 41-2955, subsection B, to continue all three agencies and includes retroactive applicability to July 1, 2020.
