SB 1446 Summary

• Requires school districts and charter schools issuing student IDs to grades 9-12 to include suicide prevention contact information on each new ID card, effective July 1, 2021.

• Contact information options include: national suicide prevention lifeline number, national network of local crisis centers number, text-based emotional support service information, or local suicide prevention hotline number.

• Schools may include the required information by printing directly on ID cards or by affixing stickers containing the information.

• Extends the same requirements to Arizona institutions of higher education (universities under the Arizona Board of Regents and community colleges) issuing student identification cards.

• Defines "institution of higher education" for purposes of the statute as Arizona Board of Regents universities and community colleges.
