Senate Bill 1524 Summary

• Extends the military family relief fund through December 31, 2026, and establishes separate pre-9/11 and post-9/11 veterans subaccounts administered by the Department of Veterans Services.

• Creates two advisory committees (one for each subaccount) consisting of the director plus 12 members including military widows/widowers, retirees, disabled veterans, and military commanders to establish eligibility criteria and review applications.

• Provides financial assistance up to $20,000 per family for eligible service members and families, including living expense stipends for deceased service members' families, medical treatment-related expenses, and other approved living expenses.

• For post-9/11 eligibility, service member must have been deceased, wounded, injured or seriously ill after September 11, 2001, and deployed from an Arizona military base to a combat zone or hazardous duty pay zone.

• Allows donors to designate donations to either subaccount and qualify for state income tax credits under section 43-1086, with a combined annual limit of $1,000,000 per calendar year on a first-come, first-served basis.
