AZ SB1622

Prohibits the Arizona Department of Corrections from entering into new contracts with private or public institutions for facilities that confine persons committed to the department, effective upon the bill's enactment.

Allows emergency contracts with private or public institutions only when the director declares an emergency due to acts of God, natural catastrophes, prison riots, or overcrowding, with a maximum duration of one year.

Requires the director to notify the governor and attorney general up to 24 hours before declaring an emergency and relocating confined persons to another facility.

Repeals existing statutes (41-1609.01 and 41-1609.02) that previously established requirements for detention and incarceration contracts with private entities.

Permits the department to continue entering into agreements with the federal government and other states for accepting or delivering offenders and administering correctional programs.
