SCR 1006 Summary

• Recognizes the Assyrian Genocide of 1915 as a genocide and crime against humanity, during which the Ottoman Empire murdered more than 300,000 Assyrians through mass executions, death marches, torture, and starvation between 1914 and 1923.

• Honors the memory of Assyrian victims and acknowledges the resilience of Assyrians, including more than 600,000 living in the United States and tens of thousands in Arizona.

• Proclaims August 7, 2020 as Assyrian Remembrance Day in Arizona to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the 1915 genocide.

• Notes that Turkey has not recognized these genocides and emphasizes that genocide denial enables future atrocities.
