HB 2058 Summary

• Establishes the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records as a new agency in the Office of the Secretary of State with a director appointed by the Secretary of State.

• Creates the State Board on Geographic and Historic Names to designate official names for geographic features and places of historical significance in Arizona and designate historic roads, scenic roads, and parkways.

• Establishes the Board of Library Examiners consisting of the state library director, librarians from University of Arizona and Phoenix Public Library, and two rotating county librarians to evaluate qualifications of persons seeking to become county librarians.

• Adds provisions protecting privacy of library user records and prohibits unauthorized disclosure of patron information without written consent, court order, or legal requirement (Class 3 misdemeanor violation).

• Repeals existing sections 41-3020.04, 41-3020.05, and 41-3020.08 and establishes sunset provisions terminating the new agencies on July 1, 2029, with full repeal on January 1, 2030.
