AZ HB2135

Amends Arizona Revised Statutes sections 15-203 and 15-701.01 to modify state board of education powers and high school graduation requirements.

Requires the state board to adopt rules establishing learning outcomes for competency-based educational pathways beginning with mathematics, with a mechanism allowing students in grades 7-12 who demonstrate competency to obtain immediate credit without enrollment.

Directs the state board to create subject competencies for algebra 1, algebra 2, and geometry by December 1, 2022, after reviewing research, consulting with education experts, and examining assessment methods.

Allows school districts and charter schools to note learning outcomes mastered by transferring students and award partial credit based on demonstrated competencies.

Effective April 28, 2021, with the learning outcomes rule-making requirements repealing on December 31, 2022.
