HB 2410 Summary

• Increases the age limit for newborn infants eligible for safe haven protection from 72 hours to 30 days old.

• Changes the definition of "newborn infant" in the safe haven statute to mean an infant who is 30 days old or younger, rather than 72 hours old or younger.

• Modifies safe haven protocols in section 8-528 to apply the same standards to infants up to 30 days of age who are unharmed and not alleged to have been neglected or abused.

• Allows parents or agents to leave infants at designated safe haven providers (fire stations, hospitals, adoption agencies, private child welfare agencies, and churches) without legal consequence for child abandonment if the infant is unharmed and meets the age requirement.
