All health care institutions licensed to provide congregant or residential care must provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid training for all staff members as prescribed by the department, with certified CPR staff available at all times.

Facilities must establish policies requiring staff to immediately evaluate residents or persons experiencing cardiac arrest, cessation of respiration, or other medical emergencies and provide appropriate CPR or first aid care in accordance with advance directives or do-not-resuscitate orders.

Facilities are prohibited from implementing policies that prevent staff members from providing immediate resuscitation or first aid care that complies with these requirements.

Facilities and staff members who in good faith render emergency care in reasonable accordance with prescribed training are shielded from civil liability, except in cases of gross negligence.
