Auditor general shall conduct a comprehensive cost study of Arizona online instruction, with the department of education providing necessary information and cooperation.

Cost study must examine administration, technology, personnel, and curriculum costs; percentage of real-time instructor-taught courses; average spending by school districts and charter schools; and average class sizes for online courses.

Cost study shall analyze school finance formula funding for online instruction students and the amount of monies following students to their school of attendance.

Auditor general shall identify areas where Arizona online instruction can reduce or eliminate administrative and reporting requirements.

$150,000 appropriated from state general fund in fiscal year 2021-2022 to auditor general for conducting the cost study; study provisions expire December 31, 2022.
