HB2917 Summary

• Amends section 28-701.02 to change the excessive speed threshold in other locations from exceeding 85 mph to exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 20 mph.

• Modifies section 28-702.01 to replace the fixed 55 mph threshold with language referencing posted speed limits, applying different standards for urbanized areas (at least 40 mph) and non-urbanized areas (at least 30 mph).

• Changes the civil penalty threshold for "waste of a finite resource" violations from speeds of 65 mph or less to speeds not more than 10 mph in excess of the posted speed limit.

• Adjusts civil penalty amounts to $15 plus applicable surcharges for waste of finite resource violations under the new speed thresholds.

• Removes an exemption for interstate system highways outside of urbanized areas with populations of 50,000 or more persons.
