AZ HCR2001

Proposes an amendment to Article IV, Part 1, Section 1 of the Arizona Constitution relating to initiative and referendum powers.

Requires every initiative measure to embrace only one subject and matters properly connected therewith, which subject shall be expressed in the title; measures that violate this single-subject rule are void as to the portions not expressed in the title.

Clarifies language throughout the constitutional section by replacing outdated terms (e.g., "per centum" with "percent," "he" with "the secretary of state") without substantive changes to initiative and referendum procedures.

Maintains existing protections for voter-approved initiatives and referendums, including prohibitions on gubernatorial veto and legislative repeal without three-fourths supermajority approval that furthers the measure's purposes.

Submitted to voters at the next general election following Secretary of State procedures under Article XXI of the Arizona Constitution; passed by House on March 4, 2021 and Senate on June 29, 2021.
