Arizona Legislature opposes any federal action to grant statehood to Washington, D.C., as a violation of Article I, Section 8, Clause 17 of the U.S. Constitution.

The resolution cites the Constitutional requirement that Congress exercise exclusive legislation over an independent federal seat separate from any state, as intended by the Founding Fathers.

Arizona Legislature specifically opposes H.R. 51 and calls on U.S. House and Senate members to reject the proposal.

The Secretary of State must transmit the resolution to the President of the U.S. Senate, Speaker of the U.S. House, Arizona's Congressional delegation, and leadership of all other state legislatures.
