SB 1209 Summary

• Adds autism spectrum disorder with specific symptoms (agitation, rage attacks, self-injurious behavior) to the list of debilitating medical conditions qualifying patients for medical marijuana use in Arizona.

• Requires physicians certifying minors under 18 with autism for medical marijuana use to be pediatricians and to recommend specific marijuana potency, quantity, and frequency of use.

• Mandates physicians monitor pediatric autism patients monthly until a stable dose is established, then every six months thereafter, and report results annually to the Department of Health Services.

• Amends Arizona Revised Statutes section 36-2801 and adds new section 36-2812 governing medical marijuana eligibility and physician oversight requirements.

• Requires passage by at least three-fourths vote of both legislative chambers to become effective under Arizona Constitution requirements.
