SB 1227 Summary

• Establishes a study committee on class sizes to determine appropriate class sizes, identify reduction methods, calculate costs, and assess existing school facility capacity.

• Committee membership includes the superintendent of public instruction, one majority and one minority senator, one majority and one minority house member, and ten additional members appointed by the superintendent representing diverse stakeholder groups including teachers, administrators, school board members, and parent organizations.

• Requires at least three of the ten appointed members to have experience working in Title I schools.

• Committee must submit a report with findings, conclusions, and recommendations to the governor, superintendent of public instruction, speaker of the house, and president of the senate by December 31, 2021.

• The study committee is repealed effective May 31, 2022.
