SB 1284 Summary

• Requires podiatrists and certain other licensed professionals to obtain a valid fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to title 41, chapter 12, article 3.1, effective January 1, 2022 for most professions and September 1, 2022 for podiatrists.

• Adds definition of "podiatric medical assistant" as an unlicensed person who completes board-approved education and assists podiatrists under supervision without diagnosing or modifying treatment programs.

• Changes unauthorized practice of podiatry from a class 2 misdemeanor to a class 5 felony.

• Reduces patient medical record retention requirement from 7 years to 6 years for adult patients and specifies retention periods for minor patients.

• Consolidates podiatry licensing and drug dispensing registration fees, and adds authority for boards to collect fees for duplicate cards, certificates, record copying, and licensee lists.
