SB1296 Summary

• Allows student athletes at Arizona postsecondary institutions to earn compensation from the use of their own name, image, or likeness within the rules established by relevant national collegiate athletics associations.

• Prohibits postsecondary institutions from denying, revoking, or declaring scholarships ineligible based on a student athlete earning compensation for their name, image, or likeness in compliance with national association rules.

• Requires athlete agents who advise or represent student athletes regarding name, image, or likeness compensation to comply with Arizona's athlete agent regulation laws (A.R.S. § 15-1762).

• Excludes compensation arrangements that violate intellectual property rights or conflict with a student athlete's team contract.

• Effective date: March 26, 2021.
