Superintendent of public instruction must develop a model ethnic studies curriculum for grades 7-12 by September 1, 2022, designed to prepare students to be global citizens with appreciation for diverse cultural contributions.

Superintendent shall post the model curriculum on their website and periodically update it to incorporate best practices in ethnic studies.

Public schools serving grades 7-12 may offer an ethnic studies course incorporating the model curriculum.

Superintendent shall establish an ethnic studies advisory committee with a majority of educators experienced in teaching ethnic studies from public high schools and higher education institutions.

Advisory committee shall recommend state learning standards and grade-level expectations for ethnic studies and assist in developing the model curriculum; the committee expires June 30, 2023.
