SB1843 Summary

• Amends section 28-701.02 to change the excessive speed violation threshold in other locations from a fixed 85 mph to exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 20 mph.

• Modifies section 28-702.01 to replace fixed speed limits of 55 mph with "posted speed limit" standards and applies different thresholds based on whether an area is urbanized or outside urbanized areas.

• Changes the "waste of a finite resource" civil violation threshold from driving 65 mph or more to driving not more than 10 mph in excess of the posted speed limit, with a civil penalty capped at $15 plus surcharges.

• Increases the threshold for standard civil traffic violations from speeds exceeding 65 mph to speeds more than 10 mph in excess of the posted speed limit.

• Defines "urbanized area" by reference to section 28-702.04 for purposes of applying speed limit regulations.
