SB1849 - Dignity for Incarcerated Women Act

• Provides free feminine hygiene products to female inmates on request and prohibits charging inmates for these products.

• Requires the department to place prisoner-parents within 250 miles of their permanent address when possible and adopt rules allowing children under 18 to visit incarcerated parents at least twice weekly, with contact visits authorized for low/minimum security prisoners.

• Limits male correctional officers from conducting searches of female inmates in states of undress unless no female officer is available, with required written justification submitted to the warden within 72 hours.

• Prohibits restraints on pregnant prisoners and those within 30 days postpartum except when medically requested or for extraordinary circumstances, with specific restrictions on leg/waist restraints during labor and delivery.

• Requires prisoners completing training programs to receive individual certificates documenting their successful completion and work certification in their field or trade.
