• Requires school districts and charter schools to provide firearms safety training sessions to students in grades 6-12 beginning June 30, 2023, using an age-appropriate program that has operated for over 30 years and was developed by educators, law enforcement, and National Rifle Association experts.

• Training must teach four simple steps for students who encounter firearms and cannot include instruction on firearms operation, qualification, or hunting education.

• Parents may request their child be excused from training, and students with disabilities may be excused if their individualized education program team determines it appropriate.

• Schools may use certified instructors from national or state associations (including National Rifle Association and Civilian Marksmanship Program), active or retired law enforcement officers, or certified teachers to provide the training.

• Schools may accept in-kind donations of materials, equipment, or services from any person or entity to support the training program.
