Peace officers must reasonably intervene when observing another officer using unreasonable, unnecessary, or disproportionate physical or deadly force against another person if a reasonable officer would intervene and intervention can be done safely.

Peace officers are only required to intervene if they can safely act at the time of the incident.

A peace officer who fails to intervene in violation of this duty is guilty of a class 1 misdemeanor.
