AZ HB2589

Expands the list of Department of Corrections positions that are in covered service to include correctional captains, lieutenants, sergeants, corporals, correctional officer IV, community corrections unit supervisors, and community corrections group supervisors, effective upon passage.

Removes language that previously allowed correctional officers I, II, and III and community corrections officers to be classified as either covered or uncovered service based on their employment status as of September 29, 2012, instead making all these positions covered service.

Requires the director to establish a minimum probationary period for initial appointments to covered DOC positions, during which probationary employees may be discharged without cause and must perform actual job duties.

Makes technical corrections to statutory language regarding disciplinary procedures and performance management principles for covered employees.
